Morgeneu ab Elystan ap Gwaithfoed of Powys, son Elystan (not his brother Gwerystan), was born "say, 1000" and had at least one son: Morien ap Morgeneu ap Elystan ap Gwaithfoed of Powys.^[1]

Research Notes

Father: The biography created for this profile notes that he was not the son of Gwerystan but of Elystan, citing Boyer.^[1] The following, from Archaeologia Cambrensis, indicates that Morgeneu is the son of Gwerystan:

Eunudd gwerngwy ap Morien ap Morgeneu ap Gwerystan ap Gwaith Foed ef a dduc Aser Illew or Saliant^[2]

Estimated Date: The profile for Morganeu ap Elystan created by Richard Ragland in 2013 had about 0950 for his estimated birth year. That was change to about 1000 in 2018 but this creates a problem with his wife and child, whose profiles have birth dates of c0975 and c0985, respectively (as of 21 May 2023).

Dates are problematic for pre-1500 Welsh families, as most sources don't include dates.

However, this family has been researched by Darrell Wolcott, who provides the following timeline:

Found in Generation 16 [emphasis added]:

#216. Ieuan ap Dafydd ap Rhiryd Ddu, born c. 1350. He married Gwladys ferch Cynwrig Goch ap Bleddyn ap Dafydd of Fach-lwyd in Cyfeiliog, whose ancestry is unknown. They had a son:
